General Bimetal Questions:

  • What are the application details?  These may include continuous process flow, static tank, or laboratory testing.
  • What are the environmental conditions, such as ambient temperature, humidity, or corrosive atmosphere (salt spray etc.)?
  • What are the process conditions, such as pressure, temperature, media viscosity, rate of flow, and possible vibration?
  • Will the wetted material of the process thermometer be compatible with the measured medium?
  • What lens material will be best for the application?

Thermometer Model Type:

  • What dial size is needed?
  • Where should the fitting connection be located for maximum readability when thermometer is installed in the system (back, adjustable angle, bottom, top, right side or left side)?
  • What fitting thread size and type will you need?

Bimetal Thermometer Stem:

  • Is there a required immersion length to ensure accurate measurement?
  • What stem length and diameter are best for your application?

Temperature Range:

  • What is the overall temperature range that is required?
  • What are the minimum and maximum over-range possibilities?
  • What is the accuracy that is required?
  • Would the thermometer require an external recalibration?
  • What scale would you need (°F, °C, or dual)?
  • Will the thermometer be exposed to temperatures continuously over 800°F (450°C)?

Options and Accessories

  • Would you also require a thermowell?
  • Is silicone filling required?
  • Would a minimum and/or maximum indicating pointer be helpful in your application?
